Possible sources of faults in shearing heads and their causes and remedies

Blade set in general

Possible cause:

The blade set is blunt and needs to be reground. Use a new or resharpened blade set If it works properly, the original blade set is blunt.

Possible cause:

The blade set/clippers have not been oiled enough and/or have been stored incorrectly. Oil the clippers or blade set that are not currently needed before storing them. Storage in the original blister works best and make sure that the Branarost chip is included. This chip helps to prevent corrosion. Store your blade set/clippers in a dry place as humidity will cause the material to corrode. Otherwise store oiled and wrapped in packing paper.

Possible cause:

The blade set has not been oiled and/or has "run dry". You should oil the blade set before and during work. If necessary, let it run at idle for a few seconds so that the oil can distribute well in the blade set and does not contaminate the coat.

Tipp for professionals:

Buy a second blade set to change. If necessary, use Aesculap Blade Cool Spray GTA103. It cools, cleans and oils the blade set. The Cool Spray does not replace oiling! Always use only clipper oil for oiling (no salad oil or similar). During clipping, the blade set should be oiled every 5-10 minutes!

SnapOn blade set

A possible cause:

The blade set is dirty, the upper and lower blades are stuck together. Hair is between the blades. Clean the blade set with a brush or with compressed air. Push the upper blade to the left and right so far that the spring still holds the upper blade. Clean and oil the blade surfaces. Do not unscrew the blade set! If the blade set is unscrewed and not refitted correctly, the retaining spring may bend. If you are not sure, send the blade set to the grinding service. Remove section - only the service should do this!

Another possible cause:

Hair is between the clipper blades. Clean the blade set, oil it and check the function of the blade set.

One possible cause:

The hinge/ blade tap is loose.

SnapOn System: Tighten the fastening screws. If the clamp is bent outwards, the head will wobble on the knife holder. Adjust with pliers. Check the blade hinge to see if the clamp still engages in the shaving head. Then send it to the grinding service.

Another possible cause:

The blade set is not properly engaged on the eccentric drive/lever. Switch off the machine, detach the blade. Switch the machine on again and place the blade set on the hinge/tap and push it to towards the clipper while the machine is running.

Favorita blade sets

Possible cause 1:

The blade set is not adjusted correctly. If necessary, re-adjust the cutting pressure. To do this, tighten the knurled screw so much that the upper cutting blade can be pushed back and forth with medium pressure between thumb and forefinger. Or adjust with the Torqui GT142.

Possible cause 2:

There is hair and/or dirt between the blades. Disassemble the blade set and clean all parts.

Possible cause 3:

The blade set wobbles and vibrates strongly when switching on the clipper. Check, if the dovetail (blade holder) is loose. Tighten the fastening screws. Check whether the dovetail is worn. If so, a service is due.

Possible cause 4:

The blade set is not properly engaged on the eccentric drive/lever. Switch off the machine and remove the blade set. Push the blade set halfway onto the dovetail, switch on the machine with the machine running, push the blade set completely on while pressing the lever at the side.

Possible cause 4:
Possible cause:

The Favorita blade set cutting pressure is too high. If necessary, re-adjust the cutting pressure. You should re-adjust the blade set to the correct cutting pressure. It is normal for the blade set to heat up more the faster a clipper is. Therefore, oiling before, during and after work is extremely important.

Vega/Akkurata and Isis/Exacta blade sets

Possible causes:

The blade set is dirty, the upper and lower blades are stuck together, dirt is between both blades. Carefully move the upper blade (knife) back and forth with your fingers. Use Blade Cool Spray with tube attachment and spray between the upper and lower blades to loosen the dirt and adhesions. Never unscrew the blade set!

Large animal blades

Possible cause:

There is hair/dirt between the comb and cutter. It may be that hair has already got between the comb and cutter during the first shearing attempt - then the clipper will not cut. Therefore: Remove the blades from the clipper head and clean them. Remove the hair and attach them again.

Possible cause:

The oscillating pad is not correctly positioned in the clipping head. Before inserting the cutter, make sure that the swinging block is in the recess provided and in the correct position. If necessary, straighten the swinging block and mount the blades. Insert the cutter so that the two tips of the oscillator engage exactly in the holes of the cutter. Then push the comb up to the stop on the clipping head housing and tighten both clamping screws. Then adjust the cutting pressure.

Possible cause:

The cutting pressure is not set correctly.

This is how to set the cutting pressure correctly:

The adjustment of the cutting pressure without auxiliary tools should be done with the machine running: Loosen the knurled screws and the regulating screw until the cutter no longer presses on the comb. A bright running sound can be heard. Now turn in the regulating screw until a slight resistance can be felt. From here on, turn it one more turn. The running sound changes audibly.

First adjust the cutting pressure with the adjusting screw (if necessary with the help of the Torqui GT146 [torque wrench]). Then fix the cutting pressure with the knurled screw.
